Weeks after it was hacked and taken offline, the Syracuse police department's website is back online.

The site was back online as international investigators announced the arrest of 25 members of the group that took credit for knocking it offline earlier this month.

The hacking group Anonymous said it targeted Syracuse police based on the initial handling of the Bernie Fine sexual abuse investigation. In a rambling online post, the group said, "And oh look Syracuse doesn't take abuse seriously, either. Tsk, tsk." That was a reference to the fact that former Syracuse Police Chief Dennis DuVal was told about the initial phone call that came into the department in the Bernie Fine case.

Anonymous is a loose international network of online activists which describes itself as an "internet gathering". Its protests often take the form of disrupting websites and services.
