BOSTON -- A somber crowd of Orange fans spilled out of the TD Garden into a chilly Boston night Saturday.
Many of them were angry with the officiating crew after Syracuse lost to Ohio State 77-70 and said anything short of a national championship would have been a disappointment.
"It was a great season, hopefully they'll be back for next year and doing even better but you know what - coming to the Elite Eight is quite an accomplishment," said SU fan Lori Shaer as she left the TD Garden.
Others said the Orange's post season run was made even more impressive when you consider the intense spotlight put on the team in regard to abuse allegations against former coach Bernie Fine and having to play without Fab Melo. Melo, the Big East Defensive Player of the Year, was declared academically ineligible by Syracuse just two days before the teams first NCAA Tournament game.
SU fan Jason Wurst credited head coach Jim Boeheim with keeping the team on track and said the future was bright for Syracuse basketball.
"It's still a great program. He'll rebound and come back next year," said Wurst.
