SYRACUSE -- A traffic alert for people in downtown Syracuse.

A piece of the Interstate 690 eastbound bridge fell onto Willow Street.

Department of Transportation officials are now trying to assess the bridge's status.

An email from DOT officials says the right lane of eastbound Interstate 690 at the 81 interchange will be shutdown until further notice.

The West Street ramp onto Interstate 690 east has also been closed, along with the Harold Place off ramp.

This is the second time in the last year there has been a problem with the downtown bridges.

On June 28th a hole opened up on the westbound side of the interstate at the 81 interchange.

There have been many meetings to discuss the future of the downtown bridges especially along Interstate 81, as the lifespan of the structures is starting to come to an end.
