This is what Princess looked like when she was rescued last year. Now healthy & in a new home, she's part of an anti-cruelty campaign
The pictures of princess were shocking when she was rescued from the basement of a Syracuse house last November, severely underweight. Now recovered, and fit, and beautiful she paid us a visit Saturday morning on Weekend Today in Central New York, to mark the start of a new anti-cruelty campaign.
The dog's handler, CNYSPCA Board Member Nick Pirro---the retired Onondaga County Executive says 'Captains Against Cruelty' is a fundraiser to support the Mattydale-based shelter's cruelty investigators. Last year, they answered 1,623 cruelty complaints in Onondaga County alone, and removed 451 animals, including Princess, from unsafe conditions.
Pirro saysthe signup for the 'Captains' outreach is online, captains recruit 'crew' to contribute for the month of April, which is Animal Cruelty Month.
As for Princess---being the 'spokesdog' is a temporary job: she's been adopted out to a safe and obviously happy home.
