SYRACUSE (AP) -- A Syracuse woman has written a letter to the thieves who trashed her Syracuse home while she visited her cancer-stricken teenage son in the hospital.

In the letter she emailed to the Post-Standard of Syracuse,Catherine Meeker tells the thieves that she was tending to 13-year-old Joshua last Monday while they were ransacking the family's home and stealing her jewelry and treasured items from her son's room.

The letter published in Monday's editions goes on to say that the thieves may have taken things the family holds dear, but they haven't been able to steal what the Meekers consider the most important - family, faith and love.

Joshua is battling leukemia for the second time in a year. His mother had to drop out of nursing school to care for him.

The thieves haven't been caught.
