UTICA -- A 17-year-old Proctor High School student has turned himself in to police after a violent fight in the school’s cafeteria Tuesday.

Utica Police were called to the high school in Utica around 2:45 p.m on Tuesday after school resource officers responded to the cafeteria for an unconscious male. When they arrived, they found a teen who suffered several contusions to the face and was unconscious.

Police have charged Hassan Lacy with assault and disorderly conduct.

The injured teenager was transported to St. Elizabeth's hospital for his injuries. The victim was a member of the track team and was in the cafeteria for a team meeting when a teammate approached him, police say.

It appears the two students had a prior fight and the suspect punched the victim, knocking him to the floor according to police. The victim was knocked unconscious, and the suspect continued to strike the victim, until he was pulled off by teammates.

The victim is still hospitalized with several fractures to the face and bleeding on the brain. The victim has not been named by police.
