SYRACUSE -- Spring break is one of the busiest travel weeks of the year across the country, and Central New York is no exception.

At Syracuse Hancock International Airport Friday,  many families were getting ready to board flights at Syracuse Hancock International Airport. The check-in areas seemed to be moving right along, but there were some waits at the security checkpoints.

Airport officials say they expect the next few days to be busy, so they have some advice to help passengers travel smoothly and avoid missing flights.

They say it's a good idea to check the status of flights before even leaving for the airport and arrive at least an hour and a half before the scheduled departure time.

It's also a good idea to check the Transportation Security Administration guidelines

Make sure you don't pack anything that's forbidden, and be prepared when you arrive at the security checkpoint. Have a valid form of identification. Also, remove shoes, coats, and metal objects, and put them in screening bins.

The Department of Aviation is also providing additional parking facilities at Hancock, in case the parking lots become too crowded.
