10 people are homeless after their apartment caught fire Sunday morning.

Utica firefighters responded to a structure fire on 15 Grant Street at 7:14 Sunday morning. Chief Fire Marshal Raymond Beck says that upon arrival, smoke and fire were visible from the second floor porch of the building.

Fire investigators are on the scene to determine the cause. They say the fire orginated on the second floor porch and then extended into the second floor apartment and attic space, resulting in severe smoke and fire damage on the second floor porch and living room.

Six occupants on the first floor, and four on the second floor, got out safely, but are now homeless. The Red Cross was notified and is providing assistance.
