LAFAYETTE -- A spring nor'easter has dumped several inches of snow on Central New York's eastern Lake Ontario region, as well as parts of counties south of Syracuse.
CNY Central received dozens of school delays and a few closures this morning, most either in the high terrain of the Tug Hill southeast of Watertown or in and around Cortland County, Tompkins County, and Cayuga County to the south and west.
Cazenovia DPW Commissioner, Tim Hunt, says the rare late April snowstorm left the department scrambling this morning to get plows out on the road. "The last month we have been doing summer work with the plows so we had to put everything back together this morning and get them back out there on the roads," he says. With More snow in the forecast some Central New Yorkers like George Leclair were taking the snow in stride. "I live in New York you never know what you are going to get when you wake up," he says.
The Yates County Sheriff’s office issued a travel advisory, but it has since expired. Cortland County also issued an advisory earlier in the morning, but that was later lifted. Still, you are being advised to drive carefully. The Cortland County Sheriff says “all county roads are snow covered and very slippery” and “area highway crews are working diligently to clear the snow from the roads.”

The Associated Press reports that only a few inches of snow so far have been recorded near Watertown, Rochester and Jamestown, but rain in the Buffalo area will be changing to snow in the morning, with 5-9 inches expected through 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Up to 16 inches are possible in the Southern Tier through Tuesday morning.
Winds and heavy precipitation has caused scattered power outages around Central New York. National Grid is reporting approximately 500 customers without power, mostly in the Cortland County area. Click here to visit the National Grid outage site.

Cloudy with light rain showers mixing with flurries by late. High elevations to the southwest of Syracuse see mostly snow with a minor accumulation.
