SYRACUSE -- Zaccanelli Food Group, based in Dallas, announced that it is acquiring Hofmann Sausage Company. Oneida Nation Enterprises is the lead investor.
The Hofmann Sausage Company is an iconic, family-run business in Central New York. It was founded over a century ago in 1879 and is based in Syracuse.
Hofmann Sausage Company provides the hot dogs served at the Carrier Dome and at Heid's in Liverpool.
Hofmann's made headlines in 1993 when it split from Heid's and began opening their own Hofmann's Hot Haus restaurants. Eventually Heid's and Hofmann reunited, but there are still a few Hot Haus restaurants open.
Former Hofmann President Rusty Flook will remain active in the company as Vice Chairman of the Board, investor, and the founding family member, according to a news release.
Frank Zaccanelli, CEO of Hofmann Sausage Company, said in a release that, Turning Stone Resort "will also serve as the world marketing center for all Hofmann activities."
Ray Halbritter, of the Oneida Nation, says, "I think what's great about this Hofmann opportunity is that they are all from this upstate New York region, they all care and love our community, and they all want to invest in this community."
The deal also includes the creation of a number of quick service restaurants, much like Heid’s of Liverpool.
Other major investors include Syracuse University Head Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim, Phil Romano, creator of Fuddruckers, Former Syracuse Police Chief and Syracuse University basketball player Dennis DuVal, and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
