SYRACUSE -- Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man killed five days after the birth of his third son.

Officials say Robert Parler Jr. of Syracuse was shot shortly before 1:30 a.m. Saturday in front of a home at 111 Mariposa Street in Syracuse. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say their investigation is continuing and no other details have been released.

The Associated Press reports that Parler's third son was born last Monday. His other two sons are 5 and 1.

The Syracuse Police Crime Scene Unit was spotted processing the area for evidence, and police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 442-5222.
