BEACON (AP) -- Former President Bill Clinton is endorsing his former aide Sean Patrick Maloney in the Democratic primary for New York's 18th Congressional District in the Hudson Valley.
Maloney is one of five candidates seeking the Democratic line to take on Republican U.S. Rep. Nan Hayworth in the general election. The primary is on June 26. Maloney's campaign announced the Clinton endorsement Monday.
Clinton says his former senior adviser had worked closely with him in the White House on economic and budget issues.
Maloney is an attorney who also worked as a top aide to former governors Eliot Spitzer and David Paterson. Maloney ran unsuccessfully in a 2006 primary for attorney general.
