SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police are out with a warning when it comes to fireworks.
Police staged a demonstration on Tuesday to show what can happen if you hold a firework in your hand.
The department does not have a specialized unit for fireworks enforcement because of dwindling resources, according to police.
Officers will be on the lookout for anyone breaking the law.
"We're trying to eliminate injuries, possible fires to houses, damage to property, and something that might be a lifelong altering effect or an injury as a result of a loss of an eye, a finger, loss of hearing as a result of a firework going off," said Sgt. Gary Bulinski.
People caught using or selling fireworks could be issued an appearance ticket or may even face jail time, according to police.
