The Madison County Sheriff's Department is investigating how a man died on Cazenovia Lake.

Deputies say around 4p.m. Sunday, a 65-year-old man appeared to be fishing in his canoe about 100 feet from shore.  Witnesses who were in the area, also in canoes and kayaks, reported the man somehow ended up in the water.

Police say people in nearby boats pulled the man out of the water, called for help, and attempted to give the man CPR.  He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man's name is not being released at this time.  The investigation is continuing.

Deputies would like to speak with people who were on a newer white boat with a blue stripe and blue sun cover.  They believe that boat may have been in the area at the time.  They also want to speak with anyone else who may have witnessed something.

They're asking anyone with information to call (315) 366-2311.
