UTICA -- A Utica man was arrested after screaming in the middle of the road and biting a police officer early Sunday morning.

Two Utica Police officers say they were in the area of Kennedy Plaza around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when they saw a man screaming in the street.

Police say the responding officer stopped to talk to the 46-year-old Jeremy Ross, but he was acting irrational, so he spoke with a woman who was accompanying him.

According to police, Ross then lunged at the officer and grabbed the officer’s face. When the officer tried to take the man into custody, Ross bit down on the officer's arm and would not let go.

Police say the officer was forced to use his taser twice on Ross.

The officer was treated for injuries.

Police suspect, but have not confirmed, that drugs may have played a role in this incident.

Ross was arrested and charged with harassment, resisting arrest, and assault.
