A nation-wide anti cancer program is offering free health testing for uninsured and under-insured, with money help if the tests find a problem.

The Cancer Services Program can be a bridge between jobs and insurance coverage, says Onondaga County coordinator Jenny Dickinson, and it also aims to reach people who've never had insurance.

For women 40 - 64, mammograms, breast exams and pap tests are offered.  Colorectal screening kits are available for men and women 50 - 64.  Screenings are available through your local health department and they're also available through private clinics.

If the tests come back positive, medical treatment is also offered, for free.  Jenny  says a colorectal kit came back positive, recently, and a cancerous polyp was removed, potentially saving that person's life.

Call 435-3653 or check the website at the Onondaga County Health Department.  The will also refer you to your counties health department if you're not an Onondaga County resident.
