An announcement about the sale of WSYR Channel 9 in Syracuse could come as soon as this week.  The Wall Street Journal is reporting Providence Equity Partners LLC is close to a deal that would sell 24 Newport Television stations to a group of owners which includes NexstarCox and Sinclair.   The total pricetag of the deal would be $1 billion dollars.

Reports about the pending deal indicate Nexstar would acquire most of the stations in the group. Sinclair already owns WSYT Fox 68 in Syracuse.  It is not clear which group would own WSYR Channel 9 or what plans the new owners would have for the station.
