Man running from Syracuse police, injures himself running into a patrol car

SYRACUSE -- A man trying to run from an officer, ended up running into a patrol car and breaking his leg.

Detectives say they were called twice to the Hedgewood Apartments for a domestic dispute.

According to investigators 28-year-old Gerald McGill Jr. of Syracuse was inside his ex-girlfriend's apartment breaking her personal belongings.

The second time police arrived around 8:15 Wednesday night, one of the officers spotted McGill running from the scene.

Police say that McGill tried to change directions on the 300 block of Hatch Street and ran into the path of a police cruiser.

An ambulance was immediately called to the scene.

McGill suffered a broken ankle.

When he leaves the hospital police plan on charging him with Criminal Contempt, Burglary, Criminal Mischief and petit larceny.
