SYRACUSE -- There's new hope for neighbors on Syracuse's Northside.  Mayor Stephanie Miner announced that the City, Morgan Management, and Tops Supermarkets are working together to bring a grocery store to the Pond Street, neighborhood.

For nearly two months the former Wegmans supermarket has been shutdown, after the company claimed that the business was losing money.

On Tuesday Morning the Syracuse Industrial Development Association will meet to authorize public hearings on the issue.

Morgan Management and Tops are seeking exemption from sales tax on construction materials.  Morgan is also pursuing a PILOT agreement.

A vote on both issues could come as early as September 18th.

In a statement Tops said it was interested in the Pond Street location and would work towards a final deal with all the parties involved.

Since the market was shutdown at the end of June, people in the area have had to travel more than a mile to the nearest grocery stores that sell fresh fruits and vegetables.

There was a public outcry from neighbors looking for someone to keep the market open.  Many people in that neighborhood have to walk or use the bus to reach a grocery store.
