Anniversary demonstration called a reunion and celebration

Occupy Syracuse called it a combination reunion and celebration, as the group marked its one year anniversary with a gathering at Perseverance Par, and a march on Syracuse City Hall. About 50 people turned out.
The group says it's refining its goals, aiming for more local change, from the bottom up.
Maria Face says one proposal is to turn Perseverance Park, the site of last year's camp-in, into a food garden that could provide people with fruits and vegetables. The land, off South Salina Street, is being deconstructed right now as crews remove the old CENTRO Common Center bus shelters. The group tried to take the idea to City Hall twice on Monday, with no official response.
Occupy says it wants to work for more decent job opportunities in Syracuse, as well. It plans more meetings at the Perseverance Park site, and is also posting information at www.occupysyracuse.org
