CICERO (AP) -- The former clerk of a Central New York town court has been charged with embezzling $27,000 from traffic fine payments.
The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that 66-year-old Mary Cole is accused of stealing the money from the Cicero court between October 2009 and March 2010.
Cole tells The Associated Press she isn't guilty of the charges. She says she left the clerk post in November 2010 after an investigation by officials in the suburban Syracuse town.
Cole was arraigned Monday on felony counts of third-degree grand larceny, defrauding the government and first-degree falsifying business records. She also faces misdemeanor counts of second-degree falsifying business records and official misconduct.
