CORTLAND -- Three Tompkins Cortland Community College students were arrested in what Cortland Police are calling a gang assault.

Police say they responded to a report of an injured person the Groton Avenue parking lot just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

When they arrived, police say they found an 18-year-old man who was unconscious and bleeding profusely from his face. He was taken to Cortland Regional Medical Center, then to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

The victim attends is a SUNY Cortland student and he is in stable condition

Police say that interviews with witnesses led to the identification of three suspects who were located in the immediate area.

Police arrested Richard Renck, 19, Wayne Harris III, 19, and Malik Abdur-Rasheed, 18. All three suspects are Tompkins Cortland Community College students from Dryden. They have all been summarily suspended by the college.

The suspects are each charged with first degree gang assault and second degree assault, both felonies. They were arraigned in Cortland City Court on Saturday and remanded to the Cortland County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash or $25,000 bond.

They are scheduled to reappear in Cortland City Court on Monday afternoon.
