ALBANY (AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo is calling a "summit" to boost the beer and wine industries in New York just months after a similar event promoting efforts to make New York the nation's largest producer of Greek-style yogurt.

Cuomo says Thursday the summit will be in late October. It will gather farmers and manufacturers as well as relevant state regulators. Cuomo says private sessions among participants yield important discussions and agreements before the public summit meeting.

The "yogurt summit" was held with much fanfare and attracted national attention to New York's yogurt industry.

Since then, there's some movement toward reducing environmental protection regulations in order to help dairy farmers increase their herds to address a shortage of milk for New York yogurt producers.
