SYRACUSE -- A Norwich man is charged with the attempted murder of a Sheriff’s Deputy in Chenango County.

Deputies say they arrested Patrick W. Ford Jr., 41, for attempting to murder a Chenango County Deputy Sheriff.

Deputies say Ford was shot by a deputy after he opened fired on Chenango County Deputies and a New York State Trooper in the Town of Pitcher back in August.

Sheriff Ernest Cutting said in August that Ford fired about a dozen rounds at the officers after his pickup truck had gotten stuck on a utility pole guy wire near. Ford allegedly threatened people in a nearby house before police arrived.

Deputies said Ford's 9-year-old son was with him at the time and a deputy was able to get the child to safety.

Ford was arrested after he was released from University Hospital in Syracuse . He was arraigned in the Town of Pharsalia Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail.

The Chenango County District Attorney is reviewing the case and further charges are pending.
