The Ways and Means Committee was expected to propose a reduction in the county's property tax levy next year, which would cut taxes in many local towns. Onondaga County legislator Ryan McMahon tells CNY Central the proposed budget would provide much needed tax relief for homeowners.

"There's no people jobs on the line. We're fortunate enough to have seen some sales tax growth," McMahon said. "We anticipate strong growth this upcoming year. We have a very conservative number budgeted, but if it exceeds that, it is extra money that the county will recover. We're not depending on further sales tax to balance our budget."

A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The full Legislature is scheduled to vote on the budget Oct. 9
