SYRACUSE -- Twenty-four years after Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie Scotland killing 270 people, including 35 Syracuse University students, the memorial wall and stairway built on the SU campus in honor of those who lost their lives that day is getting a much needed renovation.

Judy O'Rourke, Director of Undergraduate Studies at SU, has worked closely with the parents of the students killed in the attack. She says the newly renovated wall will pay tribute to the victims and also serve as a reminder of how destructive terrorism can be.

"Unfortunately terrorism has not stopped people from killing each other over different religions and political opinions, that has not stopped if anything it has gotten worse," says O'Rourke.

The renovation has already turned up a surprise - a time capsule buried by workers that contains pictures from the original construction.

"We were actually pleased to find photographs of the original construction because we didn't actually have any so that was great," says Cara Howe, assistant archivist for the Pan Am 103/Lockerbie Air Disaster Archives.

For those working here this, project is much more than just another job.

"As a parent it has a much deeper meaning to be part of the project where we are renovating these stones that have the name of the kids that were lost," says John Osinski, one of the project managers.

The newly renovated Remembrance Wall will be unveiled on October 26.
