CLINTON, ONEIDA CO. -- The daughter of a famous rock star was hospitalized and arrested overnight after allegedly using drugs at a local college.
According to a press release from the Kirkland Police Department, just before 2:00 a.m. Wednesday officers and ambulance crews were called to Hamilton College’s Durham Dorm for a report of an overdose. When police arrived they say they found a young woman who was unconscious and unresponsive. Police say they found a small amount of heroin and other drug-related items at the scene.
Police say the woman, 19-year-old Stephanie R. Bongiovi of Red Bank, New Jersey, was arrested on charges of misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of marijuana, and criminal use of drug paraphernalia. She is the daughter of Bon Jovi lead singer Jon Bon Jovi and a student at Hamilton College. Police say Bongiovi was hospitalized for a short while, and was issued appearance tickets due in Town of Kirkland Court at a later date.
A second student, 21-year-old Ian S. Grant, also of Red Bank, was charged with misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was booked by Kirkland Police and released to return to the school.
TMZ.com reports Stephanie is Jon Bon Jovi's only daughter and the oldest of his four children.
Hamilton College issued a statement on the arrests, saying "On Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, members of the Kirkland Police Department arrested two Hamilton College students. One was charged with possession of a controlled substance 7th degree, and the second was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance 7th degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. All are misdemeanors. In addition to violating state law, the actions alleged to have been committed by the students violate Hamilton College policy. The college is cooperating with the police investigation. Our first concern is always for the safety of our students. Out of respect for the privacy of our students and in accordance with federal regulations we do not discuss individual health or disciplinary matters."
Coincidentally, Jon Bon Jovi is scheduled to appear at a Hurricane Sandy benefit concert in New York City next month, which is hosted by the college. Click here for information on that event.
