SYRACUSE -- Next week, The Syracuse Rescue Mission  anticipates serving at least 1,800 Thanksgiving Day dinners. Last year, the agency served 1,750 meals on Thanksgiving-up from 1,514 in 2010.

On Thanksgiving Day, a traditional dinner of turkey with all the trimmings will be delivered to elderly and homebound people in the community starting at 9 a.m. Then, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., dinner will be served in the Rescue Mission dining hall, located at 148 Gifford Street, for any individual or family that won't be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner on their own.

The agency says since late October, its staff has been roasting and freezing 50 turkeys that will translate into 450 pounds of turkey meat served that day. Donations of turkeys are still needed along with seasoned bread or breadcrumbs for stuffing, instant mashed or whole potatoes, large #10 cans of corn, dinner rolls, pies and coffee-regular and decaffeinated.

If you are interested in donating, you can contact the Rescue Mission at 315-472-6251.
