Starting Wednesday, State Police will run "Operation Hang Up" in an effort to crack down on cell phone use while driving.

The "Operation Hang Up" campaign will run Thanksgiving week, from Wednesday, November 21 through Sunday, November 25. Troopers will be cracking down on distracted driving by enforcing New York's hand held phone and electronic devices laws.

During the Thanksgiving holiday, traffic increase dramatically as does the risk for an accident. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, drivers who use hand held devices such as a cell phone are four  times more likely to be involved in crashes serious enough to cause injuries.
