SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse man pleaded guilty to robbing two local banks last year.

23-year-old David Travers appeared in federal court, admitting he robbed the Alliance Bank branch at 1001 James Street and the M&T Bank branch at 4726 Onondaga Boulevard last December. When he was arrested, police described him as homeless.

In both robberies, Travers wore a mask covering the bottom half of his face and handed the tellers a note demanding money. No weapon was displayed or threatened. He made off with $1,850 from Alliance Bank and $629 from the M&T Bank. Clothing left behind by Travers following the Alliance Bank robbery was linked to him by DNA analysis.

Travers faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 on each count. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 29.
