SYRACUSE -- Two Syracuse police detectives were not hurt after a loaded gun was pointed at them, and they chased a suspect to make an arrest Tuesday afternoon.

Here is how police say it went down:

On Tuesday December 18, 2012 at 12:50pm, Detective Tim Galanaugh and Detective Melvin DeBottis were driving in the 1500 block of East Fayette Street when they observed Terrell Wright and his brother Antwan Wright walking along East Fayette Street.   The detectives were aware that Antwan Wright had been mentioned as a possible suspect in an unrelated crime that was currently under investigation.

The Detectives pulled their unmarked vehicle over to the side of the road near where Terrell and Antwan Wright were walking on the sidewalk. At that time Terrell Wright pulled from his waistband a loaded 40 caliber Glock handgun with a laser site and pointed it directly at the detectives while they were still in the car. The detectives immediately exited their car and drew their weapons. They ordered Terrell Wright to drop the gun and get on the ground but he started to run on foot.

Detective Galanaugh chased Terrell Wright on foot while Detective DeBottis secured Antwan Wright. After an extensive foot chase through numerous yards and streets, Detective Galanaugh located and apprehended Terrell Wright on Maple Street. Terrell Wright fought with Det. Galanaugh and other officers before he was taken into custody.  The detectives recovered the loaded 40 caliber handgun that Terrell Wright had pointed at them.

Terrell Wright is a known gang member and a convicted felon who has previous felony drug convictions and a prior gun possession conviction.  He's charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, menacing a police officer and resisting arrest.

Antwan Wright has not been charged with a crime at this time.
