SYRACUSE -- A former local sportscaster reportedly under investigation is no longer employed at Syracuse University.
Several University officials confirm to CNYCentral that Roger Springfield no longer works for SU. They would not say why or when the university severed its ties with him.
The Post Standard reports Springfield is under investigation by Syracuse Police and the District Attorney's office. The paper says Springfield has hired local attorney James McGraw. We have calls out to him for comment. McGraw told the paper he "did not believe the allegations under investigation will support the filing of any criminal charges." District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick told the paper SU officials have been "very cooperative" and that he "expected the investigation to last another two to three weeks before there would be anything more about which he could comment."
Syracuse Police released the following statement:
"The Syracuse Police Department is conducting an investigation that was initiated by a complaint made by Syracuse University. We are not going to disclose the nature of the complaint or name anyone involved in the investigation at this time. This matter is not related to any prior or recent cases involving members of the Athletics Department. More information will be made available as the investigation progresses."
Springfield was a sportscaster for 11 years at WSTM-TV in Syracuse.
