WEBSTER (AP) -- State and federal authorities have charged a 24-year-old woman in connection with the guns used in the ambush slaying of two volunteer firefighters responding to a house fire in upstate New York.

U.S. Attorney William Hochul says Dawn Nguyen of Rochester faces federal charges of knowingly making a false statement.

She was hit earlier Friday with a state charge of filing a falsified business record.

State Police Senior Investigator James Sewell says the charges are connected to the purchase of an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun that William Spengler had with him Monday when firefighters Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka were gunned down.

Three other people were wounded before the 62-year-old Spengler killed himself.

Reached by The Associated Press before her arrest, Nguyen declined to comment. A phone number for her lawyer was unavailable.

In related news, hundreds of firefighters from the U.S. and Canada are heading to the Rochester area for the wakes and funeral services for the two volunteer firefighters killed in that Christmas Eve ambush.

Calling hours for Chiapperini and Kaczowka will be held at Webster Schroeder High School. Calling hours Friday night were initially for Webster firefighters and police officers only, but have been opened to the public because of overwhelming response from the community.

Calling hours are also being held Saturday from noon to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Chiapperini's funeral is Sunday and Kaczowka's is Monday.
