SYRACUSE -- The City of Syracuse Department of Public Works says they will buy new modems for all 270 parking pay stations as a solution to keep the current system operational, according to the Mayor’s office.

The new modems will cost the city $67,500, or $250 for each meter.

“This cost-effective solution will keep our pay stations functional, accepting credit cards and communicating with our back office operations, and allows us to continue exploring our options for future upgrades to the system,” said Pete O’Connor, Commissioner of the Department of Public Works.

The city explored other parking options, but the cost would have been roughly $2 million dollars, which did not adequately meet the city’s specifications.

The City of Syracuse will continue investigating other parking options going forward.
