SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Opera and Symphoria have reached an agreement for Symphoria to perform for the remainder of Syracuse Opera's 2012-2013 season.
Symphoria is Syracuse's recently renamed professional orchestra, which debuted in December with its "Holiday Symphonic Spectacular." Several performances are lined up for the spring, including Masterworks, Pops, Casual and Young People's concerts.
Syracuse Opera also has several performances lined up for the springs, most notably "Sweeney Todd" in February and Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" in April.
In a statement today, Syracuse Opera general and artistic director Catherine Wolff said, "We are very pleased to have reached an agreement to secure the services of Symphoria for the remainder of our 2012-13 season! The professional musicians of this community have made it possible for Syracuse Opera to grow in artistic excellence over its 38-year history. Our productions depend upon their services, and we are eager to work with the orchestra to create a sustainable future for all.”
Also in a statement released Friday, Jon Garland, a Symphoria board member and musician, said, “Symphoria offers a wide range of performances all over central New York, and we are very happy to provide a professional orchestra for this season’s Syracuse Opera productions."
