NYSP Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign
SYRACUSE -- The Super Bowl is Sunday, and the New York State Police want to remind you to have a designated driver standing by when the game winds down.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 10,228 people were killed in drunken driving accidents in 2010. That was 31% of the total crash-related fatalities.
The State Police, along with NHTSA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the NFL and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management have launched the “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk” initiative.
“Before choosing to drink, choose a sober designated driver. Avoid driving drunk by handing off your keys so that you, your passengers and everyone on our roads can safely arrive home,” said Major Rodney W. Campbell, Troop D Commander. “Drunk driving is always preventable, and driving drunk could result in seriously injuring or killing yourself or someone else. Motorists can expect New York State Troopers to have a visible presence and to stop anyone who makes the dangerous decision to drink and drive.”
If you’re hosting a Super Bowl party and one of your guests gets caught driving drunk, you could be liable.
Troopers recommend arranging rides before the big game to avoid putting yourself or others in the position to have to drive after they’ve had a few drinks.
