Good Samaritan hit by tractor trailer after helping someone else

GRANBY -- A man died Tuesday night when his vehicle was hit by a tractor trailer after he had stopped to help someone else.

The accident happened along the Route 3 in the Town of Granby in Oswego County around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

State police say Pedro A. Lugo, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, was pulled over in the eastbound lane of Route 3 helping a woman with her disabled vehicle.

When he was done, he pulled out into the road was hit by a tractor trailer traveling in the westbound. The trailer was driven by Gary M. Hall, age 58, of Fulton.

Police say Lugo's vehicle came to rest along the westbound shoulder of the roadway several hundred yards west of the collision location.

 Lugo was taken to Oswego Hospital, where he later died. Hall was not injured in the crash. The investigation is continuing.

Route 3 was closed for several hours Tuesday afternoon between Rathburn and Muck Drive while investigators were on the scene.
