LIVERPOOL -- Liverpool school officials say an elementary school was locked down briefly Wednesday afternoon, but all is clear now.

Superintendent Dr. Richard Johns sent out an email to parents and community saying there was a “situation at Donlin Drive Elementary School where we could not identify an adult in the building. As a precaution, we went into lockdown mode until we could identify the individual.”

Johns reports that the unidentified personnel was a substitute employee “who did not understand protocol.”

The district reports that the school has been cleared and regular activities have resumed.

In December 2012, following the school shooting tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, Dr. Johns sent a note to parents outlining security protocols at all of the district’s school buildings.

"The safety of our students (your children) is a responsibility that we never lose sight of," Dr. Johns' note read.
