HERKIMER COUNTY -- Authorities are looking into whether to resume the search for the body of Sara Anne Wood, 20 years after her kidnapping and murder.
Herkimer County District Attorney Jeffrey Carpenter tells CNY Central's Jim Kenyon that he will be meeting soon with State Police and other agencies.
"We will put new eyes on the file to see what we may have," Carpenter said.
The District Attorney says investigators may also interview Lewis Lent, who is serving a life sentence for the kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Jimmy Bernardo in 1990. He also confessed to attempting to abduct 12-year-old Rebecca Savarese in Massachusetts after Sara Anne Wood disappeared.
Lent did give investigators clues to the whereabouts of Wood's remains, which sparked a massive but unsuccessful search in a wooded area near Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks.
"I think he probably did withhold information," Carpenter says. "I would love to locate her remains and give her back to her family."
Sara Anne Wood was 12-years-old when she disappeared while riding her bike in a rural part of Herkimer County in the Town of Litchfield on August 18, 1993. Her disappearance at the hands of a child killer received national attention and led to the establishment of the Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Utica.
