CORTLAND COUNTY -- Champ, the stray dog that was shot in Cortland County, has made it through leg amputation surgery at the Groton City Animal Hospital.

The decision to amputate was made after considering surgical repair options in consultation with Cornell University's Veterinary Hospital.  Lyndsey Anderson of Country Acres Animal Hospital in Homer said the Rottweiler Shepherd mix has gained ten pounds since being discovered in an emaciated state a couple of weeks ago. Champ will recover at the animal hospital as he learns to walk with three legs.
