SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police arrested one man and recovered crack cocaine and a stolen handgun while investigating an illegally parked car on the 300 block of Catawba Street at about 11:05 pm March 22.

Patrol officers noticed the illegally parked Chevy Impala and approached the vehicle, noticing what they believed to be crack cocaine on the passengers' lap. Police say 27-year-old Shaeem Grady was told he was under arrest and was asked to get out of the vehicle, but he refused. When the officers tried to remove him from the car, Grady struggled and tried to get something in the center console, according to police. The officers were able to stop Grady before he could get what he was reaching for. Police say they saw a handgun sticking out of the concole.

There were two other people in the car, both of whom left the car without incident. Police say that the handgun turned out to be a loaded Glock 9mm, which was reported stolen.

Grady was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and harassment.

The two other occupants of the car were released without being charged.
