LIVERPOOL -- $1,500 in damage was done to the Liverpool Little League Duerr Park facilities, and now officials are worried they won't have the fields ready in time for the next baseball season.
The vandals tore down two Liverpool Little League dugouts and set one on fire sometime over the weekend. They also ripped wiring out of a scoreboard and broke a security light.
Volunteers built the dugouts for 6 to 8-year-old players.
The damage has ruined at least eight weeks of planning and labor, says Liverpool Little League President Mike Davis.
"I just think of the people that worked so hard. sore backs and raw hands to put all these things up and it's all gone now. We have to start over," said Davis
Davis says Liverpool Little League is now considering installing a video surveillance system. He says they will have to start fundraising to rebuild the dugouts and will likely have to postpone projects that were planned for next year.
"Everyone just worked so hard to make sure the kids of Liverpool had the best baseball experience possible and then to be set back like this," said Davis.
The Onondaga County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the vandalism. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's department.
