GEDDES -- Police have issued an update on the condition of a man who was hit by a car while trying to help a fellow driver during Thursday’s snowstorm.

According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, around 1:15 p.m. 19-year-old Alyssa Fleury of Warners spun out on Route 695 south in Geddes and hit the right guard rail. A passer-by, 24-year-old David Cloutier of Syracuse, stopped behind Fleury’s car and got out of his vehicle in an attempt to assist her.

Police say a pickup truck driven by 62-year-old David Windhausen of Liverpool also spun out on the bridge and hit Cloutier. Shortly after, a vehicle driven by 61-year-old Steven Brown of Marcellus hit Windhausen’s pickup truck, and a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Wendee Luman of Bridgeport hit the guard rail behind Brown. All told, five separate vehicles were involved in the incident.

Cloutier was taken to Upstate University Hospital with multiple broken bones. He is currently listed in serious condition.

Fleury was also taken to University Hospital for treatment of a head injury.

Deputies say they are continuing to investigate the collisions, and no tickets have been issued at this time. They say icy road conditions are the preliminary cause of the crashes.
