SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner officially announced that she will run for a second term as mayor of Syracuse.

Signs that read "Miner for Mayor" lined the side walk of Syracuse’s Inner Harbor where Miner made a formal announcement Tuesday at noon.

Miner pointed to what she called "unprecedented downtown developments" including new shops and apartments, and bringing Broadway shows to Syracuse.

She says that in the past four years, Syracuse has renovated four of the city’s most needy schools, and developed the new Centro Transit HubCreekwalk and Connective Corridor.

"I have been committed to do what is right," said Miner. "To always be honest about where I stand, and where we as a city stand."

Miner is the 53rd mayor of Syracuse and the first woman to serve as mayor of Syracuse.

"The greatness of Syracuse is in its people, it’s in us," said Miner. "Together we can realize even greater potential."

Miner, a Democrat, defeated Republican Steve Kimatian in 2009 to replace former mayor Matt Driscoll. The Republican Party has not announced a candidate for this November’s election.

Onondaga County Republican Committee Chairman Tom Dadey issued a statement on Miner’s Re-election announcement. "Today's announcement that Stephanie Miner will seek another term as Mayor is not a surprise, but it's disappointing to the residents of Syracuse who want anything other than the status quo," says Dadey.

"I think we have a great mayor who is going to carry this on through," said Otis Jennings who introduced Miner at the news conference. Jennings ran against Miner and Kimatian on the Conservative Party line in 2009.

Tom Dadey will be our guest on “the Talk Tonight” Thursday night.
