SYRACUSE (AP) -- Federal authorities are charging 34 people accused of smuggling tons of marijuana from Canada to the United States through the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation in upstate New York.

Prosecutors say the ring was run by Mickey Woods of Cornwall, Ontario, and made as much as $45 million smuggling more than 22,000 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. Prosecutors say they have seized nearly 900 pounds of marijuana and nearly $2 million in drug proceeds during their investigation.

Nine people are under arrest at this time, but Woods and his chief lieutenant, Gaetan Dinelle, also of Cornwall, remain at large.

Prosecutors say Tuesday the ring distributed marijuana mostly in Boston, but also as far away as Atlanta.
