SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police have made an arrest after another in a string of burglaries in the Strathmore neighborhood. An officer was patrolling the area as part of increased patrols Wednesday morning when a neighbor flagged him down. The neighbor said he saw two people checking out houses and acting suspicious. He said he saw them walk down a driveway and not come back.
The officer checked out the home and found footprints in the snow going into the house but not out. The door was kicked in. The officer called for backup and police surrounded the house. Police say one suspect tried to get out by kicking a window by never made it out.
Officers say they found Demetrius Warren, 22, and Lakesha Lawson, 23 hiding in the basement. Police say they had stolen property from the house, like coins, money, and digital camera. Warren and Lawson are both from Utica. They've been charged with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal mischief. They were arraigned and sent to the Justice Center. Officers are now investigating whether these two suspects are connected to other burglaries in the area.
Police say this is a perfect example of what they want neighbors to do. They say these suspects were caught because a neighbor was aware of suspicious behavior and told a police officer.
