SYRACUSE -- The day after Christmas is one of the busiest days for gift returns. Big sales were enticing shoppers to buy items on sale, but those items could have a different return policy. In some cases the stores are going out of business and there are no refunds. The Better Business Bureau says it is important to read your receipts.
The Rescue Mission served some 1,500 Christmas Day meals with the help of 300 volunteers. But the Rescue Mission needs help all year long and not just during the holidays. One of this year’s volunteers was Syracuse University‘s Eric Devendorf. Devendorf is performing community service as part of a suspension from school. The Rescue Mission has served 10,000+ more meals than last year.
Governor David Paterson is asking people to refrain from gossiping about the US Senate seat that could open up soon. Paterson says he’ll wait until the current Senator, Hillary Clinton is approved as Secretary of State and the seat officially opens. Caroline Kennedy and Andrew Cuomo are the two most talked about candidates. No matter who is appointed a special election will be held to retain the position in 20120.
Today marks the fourth Anniversary of one of the worst natural disasters ever. Ceremonies and remembrances for Tsunami victims were held across Southeast Asia this morning. It is estimated that 260,000 people died that day. Nearly half of the fatalities were in Indonesia.
