The final candle of the menorah was light Sunday night in Hanover Square.
SYRACUSE -- Sunday night was the final night of Chanukah and as Jews celebrate the holiday they are paying close attention to what is happening in the Middle East. Israeli air strikes in Gaza continued Sunday. The death toll is at nearly 300 as Israeli aircraft continue to pound Hamas targets in Gaza.
At the Menorah lighting in Hanover Square in Syracuse, Rabbi Rapoport said that and other public menorah lightings have been dedicated to a rabbi and other victims killed in the Mumbai attacks. He also said Sunday night's lighting was also dedicated to strengthening and uniting the people of Israel with what's going on.
"Let's be realistic, Israel is only reacting to defense," Rabbi Yaakov Rapoport said. "The Israeli army has taken hundreds of casualties throughout the years not to harm civilians, hundreds of casualties whenever they've gone in not to harm civilians. Here there is no choice the Hamas create these terror places amid civilians."
