Syracuse's zoo is shut down by a second water main break in less than a month.  And when it reopens, hopefully on Thursday (Jan 8), the zoo will be offering a bargain to drive up wintertime attendance. 'Snow Leopard Days,' started last year, have been extended to both January and February this year.  Lorrell Walter, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park spokesperson, says the zoo will still collect more admissions fees than before the program started, because more people will come.
Walter says the outdoor exhibits are more active with cold weather---and there are no leaves to conceal the views of the animals.  And, 60 percent of the zoo is indoors---the tropical bird room, with 70 degrees, high humidity, and hibiscus in bloom, is especially attractive this time of year.  Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children, seniors and students. www.rosamondgiffordzoo.org has information on hours.
