SYRACUSE -- A 101-year-old Syracuse woman will be allowed to remain in her home.

Maime Singleton was facing eviction from her home under the city's nuisance abatement law. Singleton received a nuisance abatement notice on December 19, evicting her within five days due to drug arrests that happened on her property over several years involving two of her relatives.

Those relatives, Kareem Brown and Carzell Brown, were arrested last January after police found cocaine, drug paraphernalia and weapons inside the Baker Avenue house. Police say the two men were using the house to sell drugs and putting the 101-year-old Singleton at risk.

The compromise allows Singleton to remain in the downstairs apartment. The upstairs apartment, where the drug activity was taking place, will be sealed for six months.

Police say they plan to conduct random searches of the house and if either one of the Browns steps foot on the property they will be arrested on the spot.
